History:
As a child, Alex lived with her father and her brother, Emilio. With her mother having been murdered and her father becoming an alcoholic, Alex took on the roll of taking care of her baby brother. Being so young and desperate for the means to raise him and support her father, Alex gladly accepted the offer for a job with a man named Barry Abbott. Although the job would be in the city, there weren’t many people hiring kids her age in their town, and with the promise of earning enough money to get her and her brother out of that house, there was no way she could refuse. After telling her Emilio about her plan and promising to come back for him once she was set, she left with the man she believed she could trust and went with him to the city of Ergastulum.
Things weren’t as she expected when they arrived. The city was swarming with criminals, gangs, prostitutes, and cops that couldn’t be trusted. It was a heaven for troublemakers, and little did she know that Barry would be feeding her to the wolves. She was resistant to selling her body and would fight off the customers Barry would send to her, so he began giving her *TB pills to make her more compliant. Eventually, she started going out to find customers on her own, bringing back whatever she earned to Barry. If what she got was not enough, Barry would beat her and send her out again. The combination of the drugs and threat of his abuse made her dependent and completely submissive to him. If she did as Barry asked, she had a place to stay, food to eat, and she wouldn’t get hurt. Due to the effects of the drugs, she slowly forgot about why she came to the city, and even her own brother.
One day, she happened to cross paths with the jack-of-all-trades duo known as the Benriya. She had just gotten beaten by one of her customers who wasn’t satisfied with her, and while they only encountered each other in passing, one of them dropped their handkerchief on top of her head as she went down some stairs. It was brief, but that small act of kindness touched the heart that she had closed off for years. Unbeknownst to her, she would be bumping into them again on the same day. It so happened that the Benriya were assigned a job to get rid of Barry and anyone affiliated with his gang; Alex being one of them. Worrick, one of the Benriya, approached her at the alley she liked to sit at a lot which happened to be right across the Benriya’s building. They have seen each other many times through the window, but never had they spoken to each other. He asked her why she stayed with Barry, and all she could say was, “I have no where else to go.” Rather than killing her like he was told to do, Worrick left her, telling her that she won’t be seeing Barry ever again.
Confused by his words, she chased after him, following the sounds of gunshots in the distance. By the time she arrived, Barry was nothing but a corpse on the ground. She knelt down next to is lifeless body, showing what seemed like remorse as she said how cruel it was to be separated like this. Noticing the gun near by, she picked it up and stood up. Thinking that she was going to shoot at them for killing Barry, the Benriya were surprised when she emptied the gun into Barry’s body. Like her chains had finally been broken, Alex began to walk away, but was surprised when the Benriya went after her. They took her to the cop that assigned them the case and let him know that she would be under their care from now on, and that killing her off was no longer an option. The former prostitute was now a secretary for the Benriya, helping them out with phone calls in the office and odd jobs outside of it.
She is currently struggling with withdrawals from the drugs that were given to her, causing her to hallucinate and see a bloodied Barry every now and then. The illusions consist of him berating her and reminding her that she will be nothing more than a whore. This causes her to revert back to her old self, sending her back to the streets to find customers to satisfy the greed of a Barry that no longer exists. Thankfully, the doctor the Benriya frequent recognized the symptoms and has since prescribed medication to help counter the effects.
Personality: For many years, Alex was an empty shell. Due to the drugs, her mind was fuzzy for the most part, and her emotions she had shut off to protect herself from the abuse. Even when working, she no longer had any reactions to what was done to her, letting Barry and the men that bought her have their way. Having just started to recover from this, she can be very distant and wary of people she has just met. She is not the type to talk about herself, although that is partly because the memories of her time before being a prostitute are still hazy.
Alex is a wallflower, preferring to wait in the sidelines while the others talk. Due to her previous occupation, she is used to people not wanting to associate with her. Still, if she feels you’re a good person, she will try to befriend you and get to know you better. In that way she can be very stubborn. An example of that would be with Nicolas from the Benriya. He didn’t try to hide that he avoided being in the same room as her in the beginning. Despite that, because she knows of how kind he really is, she continues to try and talk to him, even teaching herself sign language so that she can communicate with him better.
Although she is usually shy and docile, if she feels comfortable enough with the person she won’t hesitate to reprimand or physically hurt them (smack or bite) if they annoy her. The childish side of hers that she had repressed for so long will show more as well, through pouts and moments of clinginess.
Watching from the background has made Alex observant and she can pick up on people’s emotions easily. When she sees that someone she cares for needs someone, she is the first one by their side. In these situations, Alex takes more initiative and will quite literally hold your hand through it all.

God/Shinki: God
Why?: She is a very caring person and would do what she can for others, but I also thought it’d make for interesting development for her because she wouldn’t think she was qualified to be a god considering her past. Alex has had many difficulties and having been looked down upon for so long, she has the compassion for those that others would normally reject.
Top 3 Choices: Oshun, Guan yin, Chang'e
God Type: A nurturing and sympathetic god. She’d be more inclined to prayers that she feels she can actually help with, like finding something or someone that was lost or cheering someone up. Alex will definitely be drawn to the prayers of children. She does not anger easily, but when she is, she can be very spiteful.
Power: energy amplification, song augmentation, pheromone manipulation (depends which god, haven’t decided if that’s okay)
