TEMPLE: Western District
Oshun’s temple grounds are made up of mostly dense forest, with little statues in the form of other Yoruban dieties, as well as herself, spread around in different areas. A variety of birds sing throughout the day, the nocturnal breeds continuing into the night. Towards the center is a rusty and narrow bridge that crosses a wide river, leading to a concrete building. It seems abandoned with its weathered walls, vines and plants encroaching the entire facade. The front door looks just as worn out, with the glass cracked and shattered in different parts.

The plants have invaded even the interior, spilling over the railing of the second floor, with others in pots or growing from the parts of the floor that were not paved with cement. The building is open to the elements, the back section of the building lacking a wall in the center, as if a slice had been taken out. The ground floor has wicker benches and chairs decorated with colorful patterned cushions and blankets. Bamboo woven curtains are rolled and tied up to bottom of the second floor, which can be let down during rainy seasons to keep the water out.

The second floor is the living area, where the kitchen and bedrooms can be found. All the rooms have been taken over by foliage, except when someone moves in. Only then do they mysteriously recede, although some remain along the walls. There is a leather couch by the windows in the common area, a contrast to the rest of the furniture. Colorful tiles cover the floor, keeping feet cool during warmer days.

Another flight of stairs lead you up to the roof, where flowers and herbs reside. A pergola offers shade for those that wish to lay on the benches and take a nap. Looking at the outside, the view is of the river that winds around the building, stretching further into the woods. Narrow rafts are parked along the river banks, should one want to travel through the waters.

Other Temple Residents:

A group of finches roam about the temple, sometimes exploring the surrounding forest. They are curious, nosy, and playful creatures that will approach visitors. They like to hide in hair.
