[ It was just as surprising to Alex, that someone as seemingly straight laced and serious as Levi would agree to continue accompanying her in what became a quest to explore as many cafes and tea serving establishments as they can. He didn’t falter even when some of them turned to out to be more frilly and possibly pink and pastel for his tastes, or when the teas were decorated with colorful fruits, star shaped bobas, and bear shaped foam on top with names like Berry Nice to Meet You. Levi sat through all that even when Alex herself felt a bit embarrassed. And it was fun, hanging out with him, going on these little adventures.
It was Levi’s turn to pick this time around, and while it was on the more subdued side, it was comforting and relaxed, save for the extensive menu that has her feeling indecisive as well. ]
Just when I think we’ve seen most of it, there’s somehow more flavors I haven’t heard of.
[ She chuckles at their predicament, though she’s always interested in trying something new. It helped that there were flavors native to here that possibly didn’t exist in her world. Not that she’s tried every flavor of tea in hers either. She preferred coffee herself, mostly trying the former due to Levi’s influence. ]
Oh, I might try the lavender latte…
[ Just as important though was what they would eat with it. Levi may have noticed by now that Alex quite enjoys breads, and any bread like pastry. Savory, sweet, you name it and she’ll eat it. ]
[ probably the heaviest burden he's had to bear in a long time, which has been unbelievably refreshing. turns out living under a constant barrage of trauma wears you down after awhile. these are some of the exceedingly rare social outings he looks forward to.
that said, he's always looked kind of tired to begin with, but for the last couple of months he's looked even more so somehow. maybe he's just not drinking enough tea?
yeah. let's go with that. ]
...What the fuck is "cotton candy?"
[ he just kind of mutters it under his breath, not so uncouth as to drop a full-volume F-bomb in a quiet, respectable cafe such as this one. but sure enough, listed as a new menu item is... cotton candy tea. lord have mercy. ]
[ She leans over to peer at his menu, as if she didn’t have one in her own hands. Sure enough, it said cotton candy tea.
Alex has hung out with Levi to know that there are people who have experienced even less than her in certain ways. It made her a little more grateful. ]
It’s like…a sweet cloud. [ She’s making bouncing gestures with her hands now ] It’s really light and melts super quick in your mouth. They usually have it in festivals and such.
[ he... kind of grimaces, somewhere about halfway between confusion and distaste. the whole thing just sounds weird. to be fair, the concept of dessert and/or food as something beyond just sustenance being this readily available still feels odd, even a year after coming to this place. ]
Gonna have to pass on that one, I think. I'm still not really used to sweets at all.
[ and frankly, even if he was, that still sounds like a wack ass drink. surely tea doesn't deserve this. ]
[ Alex is more comfortable laughing when Levi makes these kinds of faces. She means nothing bad by it. If anything, it’s gone from intimidating to endearing. ]
Why not go simple then? It looks like you can pick different types of espresso. Maybe try one of them? You could also taste mine to see if you like it.
[ someone offering to share their drink with him is almost always a hard pass, or a thanks-but-no-thanks at the very least. it's not so much that he's trying to be rude, it's just... well, the germophobia, you know. he knows his chances of contracting a horrible communicable disease and dying are far lower here than they were at home, but it's a habit he may never manage to break. not when it's how his mother died.
but maybe that just makes it even more significant that he'd consider taking Alex up on her offer. ]
Hmm. I always hated coffee, but I think that's probably because I'd only ever had shitty coffee.
[ he's keeping an open mind about this stuff. he's not one of those obnoxious tea elitists. honest. ]
[ She sounds a little too excited, but she herself had only been introduced to good coffee after Makoto had made some for her. It helped to recognize the difference, even if he palate wasn't quite like his. And she's found so far that her coffee experiences here have been positive. ]
If you don't like it, we can just order something else, right?
[ Alex had noticed that Levi was rather particular, but he also tries, so she's felt more comfortable trying to egg him on now. An expectant look here, a long please there. ]
